Police reveal shock detail of his arrest

Tiger Woods was asleep at the wheel with the engine of his Mercedes running when police found him parked in the righthand lane of an empty Florida highway in the early hours of Monday.

Both front tyres were flat and both front and back bumpers were damaged. The fallen superstar, who was subsequently arrested and held for four hours in a county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, admitted taking multiple prescription drugs although no traces of alcohol were found.

in the police report released yesterday, Woods told the arresting officer he had no idea where he was and his speech was described as ‘extremely slow and slurred, mumbled and confused’.

As the sporting world digested the descent of the 14-time major champion, golf’s greatest name Jack Nicklaus called on the sport to provide Tiger with the support he clearly needs.

‘i feel bad for Tiger, he’s a friend of mine,’ said the golden Bear, host at this week’s Memorial Tournament in ohio. ‘He’s been great for the game of golf but he needs our help, and i wish him well.’

Woods is due to appear in a Palm Beach courtroom on July 5 to answer the dUi charge.
