It’s Hairy Poppins! Corden turns nanny

- By Clemmie Moodie Associate Showbusiness Editor

IF his waistline is anything to go by, James Corden is no stranger to a spoonful of sugar.

But yesterday he took the Mary Poppins influence way farther.

Dressed in a series of less-thanflattering frocks and sporting stubble, the actor brought the London traffic to a standstill as he re-enacted scenes from the 1964 film starring Julie Andrews.

In a powder blue gown, Corden waltzed across The Strand flawlessly belting out the words to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious... as bemused commuters looked on. Joined by members of the Crosswalk Theatre Company and, at one point, actor Sir Ben Kingsley, he wore two other dresses to perform A Spoonful Of Sugar and Let’s Go Fly A Kite.

The sketches were filmed for the 38-year-old presenter’s three-part UK special of his cult US chat show – The Late, Late Show – and will be shown on Sky next week.
