Wobbly, dazed and barefoot... moment Tiger is held by police

- By Alisha Rouse

BAREFOOT, dazed and slurring his words, this is former champion golfer Tiger Woods being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The former world number one struggles to keep his eyes open and fails to recite the alphabet when asked to by police during a roadside sobriety test.

Woods was found apparently asleep at the wheel at 2am on Monday in Jupiter, Florida, with the engine of his £170,000 Mercedes-Benz still running.

In footage taken by the police car’s dash cam, he is asked to recite the alphabet, but the star walks off. The officer said: ‘ Mr Woods, you don’t have to walk anywhere.’ The 14-time major winner, replies: ‘What? What are we doing?’

He was also asked to follow the light of a torch with his eyes. The officer remarked: ‘You’re not following the light at all. You’re not listening to instructions.’

The police report notes the divorced father of two, who is recovering from back surgery, has been taking four prescription drugs. In a statement issued after his arrest, Woods said: ‘I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions.

‘I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realise the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.’

A breathalyser test showed he had not been drinking but he was charged with driving under the influence.
