What a treat! Cider does grow on trees

-

First impressions are not always correct, This is something that is possible to see, By observing through the different seasons, An English garden with an old apple tree. One passer-by saw it in winter, That tree seemed lifeless and bare, He thought it almost an eyesore, Wondering why it was allowed to grow there. One passer-by saw it in springtime, With blossom attracting the first bees, ‘I think,’ said the woman who saw it, ‘This is one of the prettiest trees.’ Someone else saw the tree in summer, When small apples had formed on each bough, ‘That really is a tree worthy of growing, ‘I’ll go home and plant one right now.’ The last person saw the tree in autumn, When its branches were laden with fruit, All ready and ripe for the picking, Praiseworthy from its leaves to its root. So we should never judge a book by its cover, We must be careful before any judgment we pass, For who would have thought that bare tree in winter, Could make the sweet cider I drink by the glass. L. M. Wadlow, Redditch, Worcs.
