Bank strike threat

FURIOUS Bank of England staff are voting on whether to go on strike over a ‘disgraceful’ 1pc pay rise.

Maintenance and reception workers at the institution are balloting on industrial action following claims they can barely afford to survive.

The pay increase is far below the current 2.7pc inflation rate, which the Bank itself is supposed to keep in check.

Trade union Unite said the 1pc rise would be rewarded at managers’ discretion, meaning some might get less and others nothing. The union said many of the potential strikers earned less than £20,000 a year.
