LOWDOWN ON A SOCIAL CLIMBER

-

The Rambling Rector can grow in almost any environment including shady or sunny gardens

It was first given its name around 1900 after it was discovered growing in a churchyard in Northern Ireland

It gives off an extremely perfumed clove fragrance

Because they are often in bloom in the summer, the flowers are a favourite at weddings

Churchgoers often give them as presents to their local vicar because of the name

Known for their hardiness, they can grow up to 50ft high in extreme cases but normally reach around 16ft

Due to the speed at which they grow, they are often regarded as the perfect plant to cover an unsightly wall or tree

But gardeners are also warned that they can take over a building if allowed to grow uncontrolled
