The £130 Snapchat glasses that can also record videos
SNAPCHAT has launched its first hardware product in the UK – a pair of video-recording glasses that cost £129.99.
Spectacles, which record 10-second videos, have been rolled out across Europe as technology companies battle to own people’s cameras. Google recently unveiled Lens, a technology company that turns the camera into a search engine and Apple is rumoured to be developing smart glasses.
Spectacles is Snap Inc’s first foray into hardware, and can be bought online or via a vending machine next to the London Eye.
The company, which owns Snapchat, an app that allows users to send pictures and messages that vanish in seconds, is valued at £21bn despite never making a profit.
It has had a tumultuous few months since listing on the New York Stock Exchange in March and reported first quarter losses of £1.7bn, with sales of just £115m.
Its share price is around $21.14 , well below a peak of $29.44. Spectacles launched in America last year.
