Bumper crowds reminded us just how much love our public have for golf and it’s a shame, therefore, that — with the exception of the Open next month — the 2017 European Tour will not return to England until the British Masters in Newcastle at the end of September.

DURING two dismal seasons in the Premier League with Manchester United and Chelsea, the Colombian scored precisely five goals. At United, some players didn’t even think his knee allowed him to run properly. So Falcao’s rebirth at Monaco — he signed a new three-year contract this week — points to remarkable self-resolve or the relatively poor standard of Ligue 1. It’s probably a bit of both.
