Get down! Terrified drinkers take cover
COWERING under tables and in basement kitchens, terrified revellers hid for hours after the attack unfolded.
Police put the whole area in lockdown while they searched for accomplices. In one Borough Market pub, The Globe, a man soaked in blood patiently waited as someone dressed his wounds.
Footage of the scene showed a policewoman crawling on the floor with drinkers, ordering them all to keep down.
Another terrifying video posted online showed officers sweeping through a restaurant bar as petrified drinkers dived under tables.
As confusion and panic swept Katzenjammers, diners were seen crouching in horror as officers went through hunting for the terror suspects, shouting: ‘Get on the ground, get on the ground.’
Wendy Clarke, who was in the Black & Blue restaurant, said: ‘It was just pandemonium. Everyone was running into the restaurant and the next thing they were shouting was, “Move, move, get out the way”. We got under tables.’
Some bars closed their metal shutters to keep customers safe, with many people staying inside for two hours.
At the Barrowboy & Banker pub, trapped drinkers used their phones to check social media updates. Police sent tweets urging people: ‘Run, hide and tell.’
