Tragic sweethearts in hospital
A BANKER was repeatedly stabbed across his face, neck and stomach as he enjoyed an evening out with his girlfriend in London Bridge.
Oliver Dowling, 32, from Christchurch in New Zealand, may have survived because the terrorist missed his vital organs. He was put into a coma by doctors so they could perform life-saving surgery on him at University College Hospital.
Mr Dowling’s girlfriend Marie Bondeville was also injured and is being treated at a different hospital. The current condition of Miss Bondeville, a French national who works in PR at market research firm East and Partners, is unknown.
Mr Dowling’s sister Freddy, who lives on a farm in New Zealand, yesterday said her brother was ‘now stable after a four-hour long surgery’.
Doctors had to work frantically on another victim to stop his lungs filling with blood. Father-of-three Brett Freeman, 32, from Dagenham, East London, was knifed repeatedly, but is now stable.
