As my last lip fillers went wrong, should I do it again?

Q MY LIPS are a little thin — I’ve had fillers in the past, but my lips went bumpy. I liked the fuller look and would be keen to try again, but I’m wary. Is there any way I can make sure nothing goes wrong this time?

A Firstly, it is rare to get lumps in the lip. it is normal for the lip to feel a little swollen and lumpy for a few days after treatment but this is due to general inflammation and tissue swelling and will calm down on its own.

it is essential to choose a medically trained professional who has experience in injecting the lip area. in the hands of a skilled injector, the procedure is generally very safe and without problems.

the choice of injectable filler is relevant, too. i feel it’s important to use fillers made from a soft hyaluronic acid gel.

the lip filler should be soft and less dense to ensure the lip feels natural to the touch. this also reduces the risk of lumps forming.

should you develop lumps in the lip after swelling has subsided, these can be dissolved by an experienced injector — with the use of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. However, this involves great skill and should only be carried out by a practitioner with several years experience of this.
