Signs you’re feeling older

-

BECOMING forgetful, groaningr i whenh you get out of a chair — and looking for glasses without realising you are wearing them are among the top triggers for feeling your age, a study has found.

Other signs of getting older include temporarily forgetting a child’s name and using the phrase, ‘When I was younger…’

And eight in ten respondents admit to walking into a room and forgetting why they’d entered, with one in five saying that it happens often.

The research, for Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth, also found that wrinkles, and realising that your eyesight and hearing aren’t as good as they were, could make you feel you’re getting older.

Three-quarters of the population say that they worry about getting old, with seven in ten people feeling particularly anxious about one day suffering from dementia.

But 95 per cent say that they haven’t put any plans in place to deal with such a diagnosis.

Other signs you’re getting older include wearing socks and sandals at the same time, developing a taste for sherry, and doing the ‘coin from behind a child’s ear’ trick.
