GEORGE Clooney has become a father for the first time at 56 after his wife Amal gave birth to twins yesterday morning.

The Hollywood star and the British human rights lawyer have named them Ella and Alexander.

In a statement, Clooney’s spokesman Stan Rosenfield said: ‘This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine.’

Mr Rosenfield jokingly added: ‘ George is sedated and should recover in a few days.’

Last week Clooney said he had been banned from attending his own humanitarian ‘Oscars’ in Armenia by his wife because the event was too close to the arrival of the babies.

In a video message to the ceremony, Clooney, who is co-founder of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, said: ‘I really would have been there but if I came and my wife had twins while I was away I could never come home.’

The Clooneys married in a lavish wedding in Venice in 2014.
