Join our big energy switch to save up to £300 on bills

HOUSEHOLDS could save up to £300 on their energy bills by using people power to negotiate a better deal from utility companies.

More than 7,500 people have signed up for what is known as a collective switch offered by Money Mail’s sister website This is Money.

This is where suppliers compete for a large group of customers and whoever offers the best deal wins their business.

In January, This is Money saved the average household about £200 a year on their gas and electricity bills with this type of deal.

The winning tariff with EDF Energy was priced at £938 a year compared with the average Big Six deal of £1,138. This is Money aims to save those who sign up to its new summer deal as much as £300 a year. And, of course, the more people that register their interest, the more bargaining power it will have to wield.

And there is no obligation to take the deal if later you change your mind.

You have until June 19 to sign up. The following day you will receive an email with details of the winning tariff and how it compares with other cheap deals on the market. If you choose to go ahead with the switch, price-comparison website Energyhelpline will handle it for you.
