Exports to keep surging
EXPORTS look set to surge next year as Britain heads towards an exit from the EU, an international watchdog said yesterday.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development hailed the UK’s improved competitiveness following the pound’s fall since the Brexit vote.
It forecast exports would rise by 1.9 per cent this year and .6 per cent next year. But it warned that growth will slow from 1.8 per cent last year to 1.6 per cent this year and 1 per cent next year owing to uncertainty about the outcome of the Brexit negotiations.
And UK workers face the biggest squeeze on incomes of any advanced economy next year as prices rise faster than wages.
