YOUR HOUR-BY-HOUR GUIDE TO ELECTION NIGHT 2017
After seven exhausting weeks, the campaign is finally over and now the voters have their say. For those with the energy to stay awake tonight, here is the Mail’s hour-by-hour guide to the seats to watch out for
10pm EXIT POLL
Polls close, and the BBC, ITV and Sky will reveal the results of their combined exit poll.
11pm HOUGHTON & SUNDERLAND SOUTH
A rise or fall in Labour’s 13,000 majority could be an early indication of how the party will fare nationally.
12.30am SWINDON NORTH
Labour need to win here – but face a huge 12,000 Tory majority. A fall in the Conservative vote here could be a sign of trouble for Theresa May.
1am NUNEATON
The first key marginal to declare on the night: just as it was in 2015. David Cameron knew he was having a good night when he saw the Tory majority increase from 2,000 to 5,000.
1.30am WREXHAM
Mrs May has campaigned here and will be hoping it is the Conservatives’ first breakthrough in Wales of the night. Labour is clinging on to a majority of just 1,800.
TOOTING
The Tories have pushed hard in this South London seat, formerly held by London mayor Sadiq Khan. If they overturn a 6,000 majority, Mrs May is on course for a landslide.
PUTNEY
Education Secretary Justine Greening has a 10,000 majority in this anti-Brexit London seat. If Labour took this, Mr Corbyn would be on course for a majority.
DARLINGTON
Could the Tories overturn a Labour majority of 3,100? Mrs May is hoping for a breakthrough in Labour’s North East heartland.
2am BURY SOUTH
Former Labour minister Ivan Lewis is defending a majority of 5,000 here. Losing this seat would mean a majority of more than 100 for Mrs May.
HASTINGS AND RYE
Home Secretary Amber Rudd is defending a 4,800 majority. If Labour take it, they would be the largest party in the Commons.
2.30am ISLINGTON NORTH
There will be no shocks here: sitting MP Jeremy Corbyn has has a majority of 21,000. But it will be the first chance for viewers hear the Labour leader’s response to the unfolding election drama.
3am EXETER
Could Theresa May make it a clean sweep in the South West? Labour’s Ben Bradshaw is one of the few non-Tories. He has a majority of 7,000.
WESTMORLAND AND LONSDALE
Tim Farron, the Lib Dem leader, has a 9,000 majority. But the Tories have targeted it as a potential upset.
MORAY
Angus Robertson, the SNP’s Westminster leader, has a 9,000 majority. The Tories remain confident of a surge in Scotland.
DUNBARTONSHIRE EAST
Former Lib Dem minister Jo Swinson lost here by just over 2,000 votes last time, and is confident of taking it back from the SNP.
3.30am ROCHDALE
Sex scandal MP Simon Danczuk delivered a 12,400 majority for Labour last time but his decision to stand as an independent could split the Left-wing vote.
VAUXHALL
Labour’s Kate Hoey has a healthy 12,000 majority – but her Brexit backing puts her at odds with many of her Remainer constituents. The Lib Dems have poured resources into the South London seat.
4am TWICKENHAM
Former business secretary Sir Vince Cable lost by 2,000 votes in one of the biggest shocks of 2015. Tory Tania Mathias is worried she will lose to the Lib Dem.
RICHMOND PARK
The Lib Dems’ Sarah Olney snatched this London seat in a Brexit-dominated 2016 by-election by 1,800 votes – defeating Zac Goldsmith. But will she be able to repeat her victory in a general election?
NORWICH SOUTH
Clive Lewis, the local MP, is touted as a future Labour leadership candidate should Mr Corbyn falter. But the former shadow defence secretary could lose his 7,600 majority to the Tories.
EDINBURGH SOUTH
Labour’s only seat in Scotland. Ian Murray clung on with a majority of 2,600 – but that could be wiped out if the SNP does well.
COPELAND
The Conservatives’ victory here in a by-election in February will have helped persuade Mrs May to go to for a general election. Trudy Harrison won by 2,100 votes and, if she can repeat this, it will prove there really are no ‘no-go’ areas for the Tories.
CROYDON CENTRAL
Tory housing minister Gavin Barwell won by just 165 votes here last time, and Labour’s Sarah Jones is hopeful of taking it.
4.30am BOLSOVER
Could Dennis Skinner, the ‘Beast of Bolsover’, finally be tamed? He has a large 12,000 majority but the Conservatives have claimed they are in with a chance.
MAIDENHEAD
Theresa May will deliver her reaction to the election as she learns the result in her constituency. There will be no change here – she has a majority of 29,000.
SHEFFIELD HALLAM
Nick Clegg, the former Deputy Prime Minister, was one of only 8 Lib Dems to hang on to their seats in 2015. He squeaked home by 2,300 votes – and Labour would love nothing more than to snatch it off him.
5am ASHFIELD
Former GMTV star Gloria De Piero’s 8,800 majority would normally be seen as a safe bet. If she loses this Nottinghamshire seat, it would indicate a very bad night for Mr Corbyn.
BOSTON AND SKEGNESS
Ukip leader Paul Nuttall is standing in this seaside seat, the UK’s most pro-Brexit constituency. The Eurosceptic party came within 4,400 votes last time, but its prospects have waned since.
CAMBRIDGE
Lib Dem MP Julian Huppert lost the university city to Labour in 2015 by just 599 votes. If Mr Huppert cannot fight back in this seat, it will mark a disastrous night for the Lib Dems.
7am SOUTH THANET
Tory Craig Mackinlay beat former Ukip leader Nigel Farage here last time, winning a 2,800 majority. But his position could be under threat following the CPS decision to charge him over election spending allegations.
