AGED 71
AT 71, I know I have definitely gone through the invisible barrier. The Bermuda Triangle where women fall into the ocean of male disinterest.
You reach the point where friends tell you that you are looking ‘well’ — shorthand for ‘past it’. I deal with this with acceptance and amusement.
Gracious relief is the watchword. I have had fun being me. And now, there are just about four jobs left.
Staying alive. Hanging onto my marbles. Looking after my family and friends — and keeping enough money so they don’t have to keep me.
But sometimes I look in the mirror and still think: ‘I could always have some work done . . .’
