ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL CONSTABLE AND BRIGHTON

- ADRIAN THRILLS

JOHN CONSTABLE called Brighton ‘Piccadilly by the sea’, but he spent a lot of time there in the late 1820s because the bracing sea air was thought to benefit his wife’s TB. He created 150 works in the town; and more than 60 of them are on view in this pioneering exhibition, set within the spectacular Royal Pavilion complex. BRIGHTON Museum & art gallery until october 8.
