Veteran BBC broadcaster Johnny Ball — father of tv presenter and radio 2 DJ Zoe — reveals that he loves flirting but that occasionally it has got him into a spot of trouble.

Happily married to second wife Di, Johnny, 79, confesses: ‘I love to flirt. there was once a couple who ran a pub near me and she was an austrian and she was a lovely girl.

‘You went into this pub and there were two side doors like a little vestibule, like a phone box. I went in one night and she came in through one of the doors and we were in this vestibule and I thought: “Oh, oh, oh!” and she went: “Oh, oh, oh!”

‘then the door opened again and it was her husband there and he looked daggers at me! I just about got home unscathed that night!

‘But it was just fun, absolute fun. I love flirting, I have always loved flirting!”
