THERESA May’s plan to axe the Serious Fraud Office is in doubt following the election.

After clashing with the SFO as Home Secretary, her manifesto pledged to fold it into the National Crime Agency.

Barry Vitou, of law firm Pinsent Masons, said the plan may now be dropped, adding: ‘Nobody has articulate­d a sound basis for the idea and her attempts while Home Secretary were foiled by Cabinet colleagues.’
