Can’t catch me! Mia is the star at royals’ polo

- By Rebecca English Royal Correspondent

Her cousins George and Charlotte weren’t there to join in the fun. So little Mia Tindall had to make do with playing with their father instead.

Mia, three, looked to be having a whale of time as she giggled and larked around with Prince William at a polo match yesterday.

Her father Mike and mother Zara – William’s cousin – watched as the prince chased her along the sidelines during a break in play. Mia had earlier greeted William – who was playing in a charity game at the Gloucester Festival of Polo – with a warm kiss.

The lively toddler, dressed in a practical £7.99 H&M hooded dress and trainers, and with her hair in a ponytail, later brandished a polo mallet as she played with two little boys.

She was also seen waving a toy koala – a souvenir, no doubt, from the family’s trip to Australia this year – as she soaked up the sun at Beaufort Polo Club in Westonbirt, Gloucestershire.

Mia’s high-spirited antics made up for the public’s disappointment that George and Charlotte were absent.

The children have made an appearance at the event previously and there was no explanation as to why they or their mother Kate were not there.

With her father being a former england rugby international, Mia is clearly used to boisterous play. A doting Tindall swung her through his legs and up in the air, before rolling around with her on the ground – even though she had a lollipop in her mouth. Mia also played with her cousins, Savannah, six, and Isla, five, the daughters of Peter Phillips and Canadian wife Autumn. The three girls are extremely close as they all live on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate.
