Ghostly peacock that haunted a village

- Daily Mail Reporter

WITH his impressive display of pure white feathers, this albino peacock is a distinctly ghostly presence.

And he has certainly been haunting the residents of one village, screeching like a banshee in the small hours, prowling across rooftops and materialising in the middle of the road.

Tess Fenter, 54, spotted the bird outside her mother-in-law’s home after hearing him around the village of Handcross in West Sussex. ‘The first time I heard it, I thought I was going mad,’ she said. ‘He’s kept a fair few of us awake at night.’

Eventually the peacock, named Bertie by locals, was wreaking such havoc they called on Derek Lamm, the owner of the nearby Summers Poultry Rescue Centre, to take him away. Mr Lamm, who sent Bertie on to a new home in Kent, said: ‘I have no idea where he came from.’
