Pupil killed by ‘drug overdose’ day before her 15th birthday

- By Joe Stenson and Chris Brooke

A GIRL has died of a suspected drugs overdose just hours before her 15th birthday.

Zoe Bremner was found dead by paramedics shortly after she left a late-night party.

She was with two friends who were taken to hospital.

Detectives have launched an investigation into what they said was the unexplained death of the 14-year-old in the early hours of Sunday. They confirmed that drugs was a line of inquiry.

An ambulance was called at 12.40am but Zoe was already dead when paramedics arrived at an address in Cowcaddens, Glasgow. She had been with a boy and girl of 15.

Writing on Facebook yesterday – which would have been Zoe’s 15th birthday – one of her friends said: ‘Just want to wish the biggest happy birthday to my best friend up in heaven.

‘I hope you have an absolute ball up there like you deserve angel. There will not be a day when I don’t think about you or miss you, still hear your laugh when I think about it.’

Another friend shared a collage of photos of herself with Zoe, who was a keen dancer, captioning it: ‘Happy heavenly birthday to my gorgeous best friend.

‘Still hasn’t fully sunk in the horrible news I had to hear last night and words can’t explain how I’m feeling. You’ll be missed so much by so many people. Rest easy Zo, and never wipe that smile off your face.’

Zoe’s cousin Sophie Lamont said: ‘I don’t even know what to say. I love you so, so much and I’ll never forget you.’

Kay Dingwall, the headmistress at Zoe’s school, Knightswood Secondary in Glasgow, also paid tribute.

‘This is such tragic news and our heartfelt sympathies and prayers are with Zoe’s family and friends at this extremely sad time,’ she said.

‘Zoe was a really lovely girl and will be sorely missed by all the staff and pupils at the school.

‘We will do all that we can to help and support young people and staff who will obviously be deeply affected by this saddest of news today and during the difficult days ahead.’

Police announced last night that Zoe’s two friends had been discharged from Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. No further details were released.

Detective Inspector Greig Wilkie said: ‘This is very disturbing and our thoughts are with the family at this distressing time. We are currently carrying out extensive enquiries in relation to the incident. Our investigation will include whether any substances have been a factor in this incident.

‘If anyone has any information which could assist our investigation, I would urge them to contact us.’
