Stella McCartney’s new eco collection is rubbish

-

You’ve heard of the emperor’s New Clothes — now designer Stella McCartney is bringing out a line of clothes made from, ahem, sea debris.

The 45-year-old daughter of former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is incorporating plastic rubbish from the sea in her designs this summer, including actual fishnets and bottles.

McCartney — who can charge more than £2,000 for a dress — doesn’t think the use of flotsam will deter her fans from purchasing the forthcom- ing items. ‘If they don’t notice and if they feel that living on this planet longer is a luxury, then yes, to me that’s my idea of luxury,’ she says.

The material will be used to replace more common ones used by the designer, such as woven and recycled polyesters, and McCartney will also use it as a leather alternative.

Stella is partnered with the organisation Parley For The oceans, which makes ‘ocean fabric’ from sea rubbish. only in the world of fashion . . .
