BEWARIES

-

They nestle in the dusty bits, Beneath your bed by day. At night they jump into your head, And with your mind they play. Beware, they are the Bewaries, They were once a fairy race, But due to bad behaviour, They were banished from their place. They’re dark and sharp and spikey, And their voices sound like screams, And while you sleep Bewaries like, To infiltrate your dreams. Bewaries, unlike fairies, Are not made of magic, pure, They’re made of something different, Something nasty, that’s for sure. When you have had a nightmare, And you suddenly awake, The fear is quickly gathered, New Bewaries it will make. And every new Bewary, Is a nightmare to be had, And thus they multiply and spread, And make your dreams go bad. So if you are like me and feel, That good dreams are a must, Don’t harbour these Bewaries, Keep your bedroom free from dust. Judith Blatherwick, Garvald, East Lothian.
