BOSS WHO MADE £10m
FORMER British Gas boss Phil Bentley became Mitie’s chief executive in December after Tory peer Ruby McGregor-Smith quit the role following a profit warning.
While at British Gas, Bentley tripled its profits but won Money Mail’s Wooden Spoon Award in 2009 for terrible customer service. He walked out in 2013 with a £10m send-off after failing to get the top job at parent company Centrica.
He then landed the chief executive role at Cable & Wireless Communications, but within 18 months was negotiating a £3.7bn deal to sell the telecoms firm to US ‘cable king’ John Malone.
