Banks’ Brexit rethink

PRESSURE is being piled on the Government to change its Brexit strategy to protect thousands of jobs in the City.

With Theresa May’s dreams of a landslide majority in tatters, the Square Mile is fighting for the passporting rights which allow lenders to serve customers across the Continent from the UK. Efforts to protect the rights were all but abandoned months ago when the PM insisted on a clean break from the EU. However, senior figures believe they could now force ministers to back financial services even if it means compromising on migration and sovereignty.
