Now 1 in 7 are buying their food online
THE number of shoppers who buy their groceries online has doubled in two years.
The figure rose from 7 per cent in 2014 to 14 per cent last year – one in seven, a study by market analysts Mintel found. Total online grocery spending is predicted to rise by £1.2billion this year to £ 11.7billion – and to £16.7billion within five years.
It comes as same- day deliveries are being trialled by stores including Sainsbury’s and Tesco.
Nick Carroll, of Mintel, added that ordering groceries online is most popular among younger shoppers.
