Block had been plagued by late-night power surges
RESIDENTS of Grenfell Tower were plagued by late-night power surges which affected electrical appliances and made a computer monitor ‘explode’.
In May 2013 Shah Ahmed, chairman of the Leaseholders Association, wrote to councillors: ‘There have been two weeks of power surges. Computers are turned on and off, lights continually flicker... On May 11 at 9.05pm we had numerous power surges in the space of a minute, and my computer and monitor literally exploded with smoke seeping out from the back and the smell of burnt electronics.’
He said that if the surges continued it could be ‘very dangerous’ because they interfered with items including ‘TV, fridge, washing machine etc’.
There has been speculation that an electrical fault in a fridge could have started the fire.
