Crowley lands Leger chance

CHAMPION jockey Jim Crowley has been lined up to ride last year’s St Leger winner Harbour Law in the Ascot Gold Cup a week today.

Crowley partnered Harbour Law, who is trained in Epsom by Laura Mongan, in a racecourse workout at Kempton on Friday.

Harbour Law was ridden last season by George Baker, who is recovering from serious head injuries sustained in a fall on the ice track at St Moritz in February.

Tom Queally partnered Harbour Law on a seasonal comeback run which did not go to plan when he was last of seven in Ascot’s Sagaro Stakes.

Mongan said: ‘Harbour Law did a tremendous piece of work at Kempton.

We took him there before the St Leger so are following the same pattern.

Jim was happy with him and it looks like he will ride him.’

Frankie Dettori, who injured his shoulder in a paddock fall at Yarmouth on Tuesday, could be back in action on Saturday, 24 hours before partnering John Gosden’s Shutter Speed in the French Oaks.
