Farron driven out by plotters, claim allies

-

TIM Farron was hounded out of his job by plotters, his supporters claimed yesterday.

The Lib Dem leader’s resignation followed the party’s home affairs spokesman Lord Paddick quitting over ‘concerns’ about Mr Farron’s views.

Ahead of the election, in which the Lib Dems took 12 seats, devout Christian Mr Farron had repeatedly refused to say if he thought gay sex was a sin.

But senior Lib Dem sources branded former police commissioner Lord Paddick, who is gay, a ‘sewer rat’.

Ex-Lib Dem minister David Laws said Mr Farron was right to resign because of his ‘fundamentally illiberal and prejudiced views’ on gay sex.

But Christian Concern said the resignation on Wednesday showed that ‘Christians are simply not tolerated by the illiberal elite in positions of influence’.
