Plan a summer of fun

Enjoy a great British break in the spirit-lifting sunshine

-

SUMMER has at last been giving us a taste of the warmth to come — raising hopes that July and August will deliver great weather.

So if you have put off booking a nostalgic family holiday close to a beautiful beach, or in peaceful countryside with unpolluted skies, then now is the time to secure somewhere idyllic to stay while availability lasts.

Take a cottage holiday timed to coincide with a summer festival — whether a foodie or a history buff, there’s one to feed your passion.

Base a hotel break around a fabulous event, such as Bournemouth Air Festival, Penzance’s fantastic pirate day or Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. And once the school holidays kick in, seize the chance to be active on a family adventure, staying in a lodge or holiday park.

There is still big fun on offer for everyone who wants it. So don’t let summer fly by without scheduling in some time out in the lovely, spiritlifting sunshine that’s surely coming our way.

POLDARK ADVENTURES

WITH the heady third series of Poldark back on our screens, the dramatic lives of Ross and Demelza are once again perfectly complemented by Cornwall’s rugged coastline and lush countryside.

While galloping around on the clifftops might not be an option, Ramblers Walking Holidays offers a break in St Ives based around trails taking in long sandy beaches, secret coves, old stone villages and abandoned mining settlements.

And, close to St Michael’s Mount, Cornwall Swimming Horses offers the chance to ride into the sea and try some circus-style antics, with the water acting as a safety net.

There’s even a new Experience Poldark app that digs deep into the heart of Cornwall, offering a list of filming locations, self-guided tours and a ‘proper job’ Poldark lingo decoder.

AIR SHOWSTOPPER

SUMMER brings non-stop fun to Bournemouth and the beautiful Dorset coast, which tends to bask in a warm microclimate.

Bournemouth’s seven miles of golden sands is the backdrop to a huge programme of free family events, from candle-lighting in the gardens, to concerts, children’s activities and fireworks. The showstopper is the free Bournemouth Air Festival at the end of August, voted one of the top ten in the world.

Stay at the welcoming Bay Majestic Bournemouth Hotel on the East Cliff, a great spot for viewing the air show. The beach and the town are just a short walk away and the hotel offers great-value weekend and midweek breaks with half board.

sun’s coming out and the weather is too good to waste, so act now and there’s still time to get your plans in order for a summer of fun.
