OLD HABITS

IT IS understood Scotland thought they could get a result against England the moment the team sheets arrived. A source in the camp revealed: ‘We couldn’t believe how cautious the England selection was. That line-up wasn’t ambitious enough.’ Gareth Southgate (above) has England well-positioned in World Cup qualifying and that’s imperative. Next there needs to be a significant change in attitude to big games.

ENGLAND CRICKET

IN a generally underwhelming Champions Trophy, Pakistan turned in the bowling performance of the tournament against England. Much was made of the Cardiff pitch not suiting England but it was an ICC decision to use that track and a reminder to batsmen like Ben Stokes (above) that sometimes you have to find a different way to score your runs.

BEN TURNER

THE Burton defender will miss the first five games of next season after the FA dismissed his appeal against a racial abuse charge that dates back to December. Burton say they are ‘extremely disappointed’ with the decision. Though surely not as disappointed as Brentford’s Nico Yennaris was when he was racially insulted by Turner (above) in the first place.
