JAGUAR Land Rover could create 5,000 new jobs as part of the race to conquer the driverless car market.

Bosses are understood to be on the brink of announcing a recruitmen­t drive for engineers who can help create autono- mous vehicles capable of cruising the roads without human input.

The move would see the firm’s UK workforce rise by almost 15pc to 42,000 people.

Tech giants Google, Apple and Facebook are also seeking to up their UK workforces.
