SEVEN RACES, SEVEN WINS . . . SO WHY IS OUR MAN SAM TIPPING AGAINST CHURCHILL THE CHAMPION?

-

CHURCHILL is the hot favourite in the feature race as Royal Ascot begins today. The elegant three-year- old has won his last seven races and he has ace jockey Ryan Moore on board.

But Sportsmail’s expert tipster Sam Turner predicts Churchill’s hot streak will come to an end, with Barney Roy racing to glory instead.

Barney Roy’s trainer Richard Hannon is optimistic the second favourite can avenge his 2,000 Guineas defeat when the two square up in the £400,000 St James’s Palace Stakes.

Churchill, the first of a clutch of odds-on favourites for trainer Aidan O’Brien which can hurt the bookies this week, has since won the Irish 2,000 Guineas. But Barney Roy lost his footing when losing at Newmarket and he is primed to power home in today’s fascinating re-match.

Hannon said: ‘He stumbled so badly that I thought he’d broken a leg. Ascot will suit him much better. He was only having his third run there, so we will know more this time.’
