No cover for passports

- v.bischoff@dailymail.co.uk

IF YOU lose your passport on holiday, don’t assume your travel insurance will cover the cost.

Over 90 pc of policies provide cover if a passport is lost, stolen or damaged, GoCompare found.

Around half pay £300 or more towards emergency travel documents, extra hotel nights and changing flights. Some pay only up to £100. Few cover the £72.50 cost of replacing your passport. Watch for small print exclusions. An insurer may not pay out if the passport is not locked in a hotel safe or is left in a car. A claim might be refused without a police report.

Experts advise you to take a passport photocopy and spare photos when you travel as it makes it easier to get emergency documents.
