Boy, 15, dies swimming in a lake with friends

-

A TEENAGE boy has drowned after going swimming with friends in a lake.

Spencer Hurst, 15, died at Pelsall in the West Midlands on Tuesday evening.

Ben Brook, of West Midlands Fire Service, warned: ‘We absolutely understand the temptation to swim, have fun and cool down during the heatwave, but we are asking people not to. It simply isn’t worth the risk.’ Large areas of water can remain very cold despite hot weather, leaving swimmers in shock.

David Mountney, Spencer’s headmaster at Aldridge School, said: ‘We know he will be missed by all of us.’

The tragedy follows the death of Paul Lawson, 16, who drowned at Green-booth Reservoir, Rochdale, on Monday. His mother Natalie said: ‘I begged him not to go. I told him waters like that were dangerous, but he wouldn’t listen.’
