Cowboy clinics exploit lax rules
THE scandal in the unregulated beauty industry was laid bare by a Daily Mail investigation earlier this year. Undercover reporters accompanied college student Ellie Ducker, 17, as she sought lip fillers across the country.
In each case, practitioners tried to convince her she needed the procedure, but she backed out, saying she was too scared.
All the clinics were willing to inject the teenager without ask- ing whether she had parental permission. One practitioner asked her for ID – but was happy to inject her lips even though it showed she was under 18.
One of the technicians, at a clinic in Birmingham, presented himself as a doctor but was not registered with the General Medical Council.
Another, in Staffordshire, told Ellie she had carried out only two days of training.
