Why it pays to learn Chinese

JAPANESE and the Chinese languages are the most lucrative for jobseekers, with average salaries of more than £31,000, a study found.

Arabic and Russian also featured in the UK’s top ten most wanted languages, according to the research by jobs site Adzuna.

German, last year’s highest paying language, dropped to fourth as advertised salaries fell 1.8 per cent to £31,030.

Researchers said the rising demand for Asian languages could be a sign that, following the Brexit vote, ‘employers are contemplating a future outside the EU’.
