Mob rule
I AM a Cockney who lived through the Blitz, when tens of thousands of Londoners died. I lost schoolmates in the Bethnal Green Tube disaster.
Never did I experience baying crowds storming a town hall or see Churchill, or the King and Queen heckled when they came to the East End to support the people and see the bomb damage. Londoners never behaved in such an appalling way.
I am angry that the Left has sought to make political capital out of tragedy, stirring up a mob to take to the streets. DEREK HOUGHTON, Bournemouth, Dorset. MILITANT trades unions are threatening to carry out a summer of revolutionary strikes to bring down a democratically elected government.
How is this possible? The answer is simple. When ballot papers are sent out to members, there are just two boxes to tick: strike, or action short of striking. There needs to be a third box: not in favour of any industrial action.
At present, anyone opposed to industrial action can only refuse to return their ballot paper, thereby distorting the end result. MIKE THOMPSON, Plymouth, Devon. I HAVE cancelled my membership of Unite in protest at the way it’s being run. I have been a Labour supporter all my life. My father was a Labour county councillor and he would be appalled by what’s happening in the party.
Jeremy Corbyn is promising the earth to attract young voters and the unions are colluding by bankrolling him to promote his unsustainable policies.
