ED SHEERAN’S MODEST DEMAND: FIZZY POP AND HONEY

- By Tom Payne

POP stars are famous for lavish backstage demands ranging from helicopters to jacuzzis.

But Ed Sheeran has rather more modest needs if his requests for his headline set at Glastonbury Festival are anything to go by.

The 26-year-old British singer reportedly asked for just £ 7 worth of Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite, a bottle of Robinsons squash and a jar of Manuka honey to soothe his vocal chords. This contrasts drastically with other singer’s back- stage requests, known in the industry as ‘riders’.

Mariah Carey famously demanded bendy straws and sofas in dark colours with ‘no busy patterns’, while Cher insisted on a separate room for her wigs during her 2013 tour.

Earlier this year, Justin Bieber reportedly requested two fivestar hotels for his 120-strong entourage and chef-prepared meals named after his songs, as well as a jet and helicopter for his ‘ immediate travel needs’. Katy Perry, who will be performing at Glastonbury for the first time tonight, has reportedly asked for Pinot Grigio spritzers, dried or frozen fruits and Edamame beans.

Sheeran received an MBE for services to music and charity earlier this month.

His smash-hit third album Divide, released just over three months ago, became the fastest-selling album by a male artist in the UK. He is thought to be worth £29million.
