I’LL PROVE CHELSEA WRONG, SAYS LIVERPOOL’S SALAH

- By ALEX MARTIN

MOHAMED SALAH says he has a point to prove to the Premier League after he joined Liverpool from Roma in a club-record deal worth £39million. The Egyptian arrived in Merseyside on Tuesday to have medical checks and finalise personal terms. He becomes the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, exceeding the £35m they paid Newcastle United for Andy Carroll in 2011. His return to England comes after a difficult spell at Chelsea between 2014-15 when he made just 19 appearances and was shipped out on loan to Italy before being sold to Roma last year. Speaking to Liverpool’s website, he agreed he had a point to prove, saying: ‘Yes, always. Even if I see myself playing very well in one thing, I try to improve to do it better and better. ‘I always think about the small details because I need to improve more and more.’ Asked if he was returning to England a better player, Salah, who scored 19 goals for Roma last season, said: ‘100 per cent, yes! Everything (has improved). Even my personality was different, I was a kid — I was 20 or 21. Now I’m four years older, everything is different.’ Salah will earn £90,000 a week at Anfield and will wear the No 11 shirt with Roberto Firmino wearing No 9. Liverpool are still searching for a centre back while RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita is a target.
