Air Miles Andy is back! Duke circles globe 4 times in year

-

HE’S no longer Britain’s roving trade envoy, but the Duke of York continues to live up to the nickname Air Miles Andy.

Over the past year Prince Andrew has travelled nearly 100,000 miles – the equivalent of four times around the globe and more than any other royal.

He has visited China, Malaysia, Mozambique, Botswana, Mexico, Turkey, the US, France and Singapore, primarily on official engagements and to plug his Pitch@ Palace charity. This month Andrew announced another long-haul trip to Australia in September to promote his initiative that helps start-up entrepreneurs.

It is not known how much his globe-trotting has cost taxpayers but a May trip to California included a two-day conference at a £400-a-night hotel in Beverly Hills that featured in the film Pretty Woman.

In 2011 the duke stood down from his role as the UK’s trade representative. A spokesman said all official visits were undertaken at the Government’s request.
