Get a grip! It’s a £140 paperclip

- Daily Mail Reporter

FOR the fashionista who has run out of things to buy, Prada has unveiled its must-have paperclip – a snip at £140 each.

The polished sterling silver design, left, made by the Italian firm more usually associated with expensive clothes and handbags, is on sale in a New York department store.

But at just 2.5in (6cm) in length and with the only design feature being a small ‘ Prada’ logo embossed on the side, many shop- pers have found it hard to justify the price. Although it is marketed as a ‘Paperclip-Shaped Money Clip’ some joked you would need more money than sense to buy it.

The clip is the latest designer item to receive a dressing down from customers, with French luxury brand Balenciaga enduring much criticism for recent accessories.

Its Balenciaga Shopping Bag – a leather version of the free paper bag given away in many stores – recently went on sale for an extortionate £870. It has since sold out.

It also released a £1,600 bag that looked suspiciously similar to Ikea’s bright blue 40p Frakta tote.

Chanel was chastised last month for selling a £1,100 boomerang branded with the French fashion house’s logo. Some accused the brand of ‘stealing’ the idea from Aboriginal culture.
