Now Ronney the cat has been treated for first-degree burns and had part of his tail amputated after a 150-mile trip on a red-hot car engine.

Even so, owner Katrina Smart thinks he should be renamed Lucky because of his talent for survival.

Ronney, 12, had clambered into neighbour Steve Willis’s car in Burslem, Staffordshire – but Mr Willis only found him after driving to Wiltshire. Vets treated his burns with antiseptic manuka honey.

Miss Smart, 46, said: ‘Ronney should be renamed Lucky because he’s had a terrible few months but has come through it incredibly well.’
