It was self-defence, says EDL founder in Ascot brawl
ENGLISH Defence League founder Tommy Robinson has been filmed repeatedly punching a man in a car park at Royal Ascot – but claims he was acting in ‘self-defence.’
The Right-wing commentator, who quit as leader of the EDL in 2013, was filmed by a dashboard camera on a coach after attending the race meeting on Saturday.
The footage, which has been posted online, appears to show him pushing the unidentified man to the ground.
Robinson, 34, who is wearing a black suit and shirt, is then seen throwing seven punches towards the man’s head before three other men step in to separate them. But in a statement on his Twitter account Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, said the man had followed him and his wife to their coach, abusing them. The man had dragged him off the coach and attacked him.
Police said no complaint has been made against Robinson, and no arrests have been made.
