Fire fridge has STILL not been tested
THE Hotpoint fridge-freezer model that started the Grenfell inferno has yet to be properly tested for faults, it emerged yesterday.
Scotland Yard confirmed last week the blaze started in a model manufactured between 2006 and 2009, of which around 64,000 were sold. But Whirlpool, which owns Hotpoint, said it had not had the opportunity to conduct a proper examination of its FF175BP fridge-freezer to identify any problems that may have triggered the fire. The Department for Business insisted there is no need for owners to switch their fridge-freezer off – as the device has not previously been recalled.
But Labour MP Andy Slaughter said it ‘defies logic’ to evacuate residents over cladding fire fears while telling owners of a potentially dangerous fridge to keep them turned on. Whirlpool said it had done a ‘preliminary viewing of a fridge-freezer taken from Grenfell Tower’.
