NATURAL WORLD: SUDAN: THE LAST OF THE RHINOS, 9PM, BBC2
IN 1973, a young northern white rhino was captured in central Africa and taken to live in a zoo in what is now the Czech Republic. Now 43 and named Sudan, he has survived the destruction of the rest of his species, which has been annihilated by poaching and a failure to breed in captivity. As the last male of his kind, Sudan (pictured) is the focus of a desperate battle to save a species that is on the edge of extinction, with just three animals known to be alive — Sudan and his two female companions. This touching and fascinating film tells Sudan’s remarkable story.
