Tourists’ Tenerife terror as tyres on holiday jet burst on landing
BRITISH tourists screamed in terror as they were hit by flying luggage from their overhead lockers as tyres on a holiday jet burst on landing at Tenerife.
The undercarriage gouged itself into the runway as it came into land.
Incredibly, no one was seriously hurt on the Airbus A330, leased from the fleet used by the RAF to fly Prime Minister Theresa May on official business.
But the runway at Tenerife South Airport had to be closed for resurfacing for more than six hours, causing disrup- tion for thousands, many of whom were forced to sleep on the floor overnight.
The Jet2 flight left Manchester at 9.15am on Monday and landed at 1.45pm. Passenger Rachael Madigan, 19, from Halewood, Merseyside, said: ‘Everyone was panicking. All you could hear was banging and screaming. Luggage was hitting people. It was horrible.’
Jet2 apologised to those affected, adding: ‘An investigation is under way.’
