Redmond sorry for miss in shootout

- DOMINIC KING reports from Krakow

ENGLAND’S shattered players rolled out of their base yesterday consumed with an emptiness that will take a long time to fill after their semi-final penalty shootout loss to Germany. None more so than the talented Nathan Redmond, who missed the crucial kick and last night issued an apology. The Southampton forward (below) posted on social media: ‘I’m sorry, gutted to have lost... but I will keep learning. Anyone who knows me knows I am forever proud to wear the Three Lions shirt. As I close the chapter on junior football, I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me grow and learn. #England #lovethegame #thankyou.’ It was a similar tale in last night’s Confederations Cup semi-final, with Manchester CityC goalkeeper Claudio Bravo making three saves in the shootout as Chile defeated European champions Portugal 3-0 on penalties to reach Sunday’s final. The game had finished goallessg after 120 minutes.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN have emerged as competition for Chelsea in the race to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus. AntonioA Conte has identified the Brazilian as one of his key targets but there is no agreement on a fee. Juventus want £61million for the left back and are unlikely to drop their asking price with PSG now interested. Chelsea have already bid £55m for the 26-year-old.
